Oliver! was Lionel Bart's only really successful musical. Before Oliver! he had written the text for Lock Up Your Daughters, and afterwards he wrote Blitz (1962) and Maggie May (1964), none of which came even close to the popurarity of Oliver!. In 1963 he was rewarded with a Tony for Oliver!.
